Motherhood...
My precious little girl, my baby, the light within my darkness, is going to preschool on September 7th. I am so proud of her, and so excited for, her little world is about to get so much bigger. Emania was evaluated by a State certified Child Behavioral Developmental Teacher a few months ago when we looked into a preschool run by Genesee Valley BOCES. I was shocked when the teacher told me she was amazed at how socially mature Emania was for such a young age, and for a child who dosen't get social interaction on a regular basis. But then, the little bright one has always reached out to everyone... regardless of look, age, size, gender, ect... She loves to talk to people, to show them affection, to play with them so they too can smile. She loves to give hugs and tell you she loves you and tell you " Its ok " when you're sad. My little princess has a heart not made of gold, but made of a sacred spirit blessed by the Light of Lugh, Himself.
I look forward to the beautiful artwork she'll bring home for me to post all over the walls and fridge with pride and adoration. I look forward to hearing about her morning, and about the new friends she'll make. I can't wait for the field trips filled with fun and education. Pride fills my heart when I think about Emania's accepting nature, knowing she sticks up for the underdog, the handicapped child, the kid no one else likes. Emania dosen't judge people. She loves them for who they are on the inside. She picks up on those who would bring harm and shame to another individual based upon their own ignorance, jealousies, and cruelty. But rather than get angry and shout at these people, she tells them she's sorry. When they look at me with confusion, I explain that my beautiful daughter feels sorry for them, because they will never know what it is to be a human being.
As I think about her name, I know we picked the right one. Emania is another term for " Emain Macha " or " Brooch of Macha ". Emain Macha is a hill fort in Ulster. When looked down upon from the sky, it resembles Macha's Brooch. A beautiful brooch at that. Macha has often been thought of as a horrible, vengeful, almost evil Goddess. Of course, as I've said before, this isn't true. Macha is a beautiful, protective Goddess, willing to defend Her people with Her life. She is filled with knowledge, kindness, inner strength, and love. I find Emania speaking with Her on a regular basis, singing to Her, listening to stories, and waving to the crows and ravens which watch over her all throughout the year. From September to April, you will find thousands of them flying and nesting in the trees around our street. When we take walks, or go for rides, they follow us, always keeping watch. One time, last spring, as we looked out our kitchen window, listening to the " Kaw, Kaw's ", I asked her if she was dancing for them as she twirled around in circles. She answered " We're dancing for Macha, Mum Mum. Crows are Her friends ". So, it brings me joy to know that as we walk to and from school each morning, we'll have Her friends with us on the way.
I thought my heart was breaking. I thought my tears and heart ache were because my baby was growing up too fast and entering the scary world too soon. But now I know I was wrong. My heart is not breaking. My heart is singing. The whole world is about to be introduced to the Little Bright One. Perhaps, Emania will help to heal a few broken hearts in the world, just with her little smile... that twinkle in her eye. Perhaps Emania will be able to teach people that before you condemn those around you, perhaps you should look within your own heart, for maybe you've lost the light. Maybe, just maybe, Emania will teach us all, what divinity really is.
My love to you my Emania Fae. My little girl who healed a very deep wound within my heart. May you go safely and filled with love into a world which has lost so much. I know you can show them the way... you've already shown your family... May your dreams be forever filled with sunshine, and rainbows, butterflies and flowers, Moonlight and Shooting Stars... Crayons and Construction Paper...
